Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary and Area ensures that children and youth facing adversity have the relationships they need to become resilient and realize their full potential.

With the support of our professional, qualified staff, mentors form strong one-to-one relationships with their mentees that express care, challenge growth, provide support, share power, and expand possibilities.

These critical developmental relationships allow children and youth to strengthen their social emotional learning and executive functioning skills, developing them into resilient young people who are able to overcome life’s adversities and achieve more.

Our aim is to transform our community into an ecosystem full of supportive, caring mentors and natural supports that help our young people thrive.

The BBBS model is the right intervention for youth facing adversity, but who are not yet in crisis. We are a ‘midstream’ agency adding positive supports and improving skills and abilities for those we serve.

There are many ways to support a young person for as little as one hour per week.

Community Mentor: Meet with your mentee (ages 6-24) in the community weekly and explore your shared interests while making a difference.

School-Based Mentor: Mentor a 6-12 year old during school hours and help them build their confidence through a one-on-one relationship.

Tech Talent Tuesday is a bi-weekly gathering for those interested in taking their first steps and/or  advancing their career in tech. The series will rotate through topics including startups that are hiring, career pathways, tips from recruiters, co-founder stories and more. This takes place at Platform 4:30 - 6:30 pm every second Tuesday on the following dates in 2025:

We are looking for 2-3 volunteers per event to assist Platform team members with light event set up, guest check in, and post event reset.

Tech Connect Alberta is more than just a name; it is a thriving community for tech enthusiasts and professionals. Here, we celebrate all facets of the tech industry—whether you are a skilled IT guru, a software engineer, a sales whiz, or a customer support pro—as long as you are passionate about technology and eager to help others advance in their careers, you are in the right place.

Our journey began as a small WhatsApp group, and today, we stand strong with nearly 3,000 members, fostering an engaged community on both WhatsApp and Discord. Our Discord community is a treasure trove of resources, featuring channels such as a Job Board, Resume Help, Event Recordings, and an array of enjoyable activities.

But we do not stop at mere networking. Tech meetups are about forging meaningful connections. We are proud to collaborate with other communities and organize volunteering events, creating opportunities to build lasting relationships.
