Koala Habitat

The Koala Habitat Volunteer Round suits a person with a passion for Australian wildlife and a keen interest in koalas, who enjoys cleaning and working outdoors as part of a team. It takes great commitment to assist with the daily care of our wildlife as well as dedication, and attention to detail to ensure all aspects of the animal’s welfare are provided for.

This position is a physical role and involves daily cleaning of the koala enclosures, food preparation and providing environmental enrichment, along with assisting our guests during encounters.

This is a long-term role with a minimum 6-month weekly commitment due to the training required for this unique and privileged role. 

Level of Fitness: A high level of physical fitness is required for this role.

In the koala habitat you will encounter over 50 koalas, each with their own personalities.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Cleaning the enclosures is a substantial part of this role, so be prepared for a physical day.
  • Daily cleaning tasks in the enclosures will include raking, sweeping, hosing, scrubbing perching and enclosure furniture, de cobwebbing and cleaning windows.
  • Refurbishing the animal enclosures and general maintenance is carried out on a regular basis and includes mulching, sanding, weeding, browse changing, painting, replacing perching and cleaning wildlife signage throughout the park.
  • Food preparation is a large part of the role and includes selecting and sorting many different varieties of eucalyptus gum leaves, washing water bowls, participating in feeding the animals and preparation of making animal enrichments.
  • Observations of the animals.
  • Assisting guests and answering general enquires regarding the park and the animals.

Saturday to Wednesday 7am-3:30pm or 7am-11:30am

Thursdays and Fridays 8am-3.30pm or 8am-11.30am
