The lost valley exotic precinct position is only open to existing Wildlife Volunteers with at least 6 months experience, or experienced wildlife workers

 

This role suits a person with a passion for exotics and Australian wildlife, and a keen interest in variety of species including birds, mammals, and reptiles, who enjoys cleaning and working outdoors as part of a team. It takes great commitment to assist with the daily care of our wildlife as well as dedication, and attention to detail to ensure all aspects of the animal’s welfare are provided for.

Level of Fitness: A high level of physical fitness is required for this role.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Wildlife Volunteers play an important role assisting our Specialist Wildlife keepers in the daily care of our precious wildlife at The Sanctuary, as well as helping to make our guests feel welcome. Wildlife volunteers work alongside our wildlife keepers on their daily rounds assisting with the cleaning and feeding of the animals who call the Sanctuary home.

The range of animals in the Sanctuary is diverse and includes a huge variety of Australian native fauna and some guest exotic species. In the lost valley exotic precinct position you will encounter a variety of exotic and Australian birds, mammals, and reptiles.

WHAT ARE THE TASKS

  • Cleaning the enclosures is a substantial part of this role, so be prepared for a physical day, up to 8 hours on your feet in all weather, able to bend and lift up to 10kg.  Daily cleaning tasks in the enclosures will include raking, sweeping, hosing, scrubbing perching and enclosure furniture, de cobwebbing and cleaning windows.
  • Refurbishing the animal enclosures and general maintenance is carried out on a regular basis and includes mulching, sanding, weeding, browse changing, painting, replacing perching and cleaning wildlife signage throughout the park.
  • Food preparation is a large part of the role and includes chopping up many different varieties of food, washing dishes, washing water bowls, participating in feeding the animals and preparation of making animal enrichments.
  • Observations of the animals.
  • Assisting guests and answering general enquires regarding the park and the animals.

 

VOLUNTEER SHIFTS

Monday to Sunday 7am – 4pm or 7am -12noon, 1 day a week for at least 6-months
