GARDENING GURUS

The Gardening Gurus Volunteer Round suits a person with a passion for Australian plants and wildlife with a keen interest in Horticulture, who enjoys getting their hands dirty and working outdoors as part of a team. It takes great commitment and dedication to assist with the daily care of the Sanctuary’s vast gardens, spread over 27 hectares.

This position is a physical role and involves daily maintenance of the gardens, as well as planting, along with assisting our guests too.

This is a long-term role with a minimum 6-month weekly commitment due to the training required for this rewarding role.

Level of Fitness: A high level of physical fitness is required for this role with the ability to be on your feet for up to 6 hours working outdoors in all weather conditions.

 

WHAT TO EXPECT

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Horticulture Volunteers play a major role assisting our horticultural staff in the care and planting of all the botanical displays throughout the Sanctuary. Volunteers also assist in helping to make our guests feel welcome.  The Gardening Guru Volunteers are a small team of gardening enthusiasts.

WHAT ARE THE TASKS

  • Daily care tasks will include raking, sweeping, hosing, tidying up leaves, collecting branches and palm fronds, weeding, pruning, watering, planting, mulching, maintenance of potted plants, cleaning of signs and fertilizing.
  • Must have previous experience working with Australian Native plants and a keen desire to learn and perform all the duties involved.
  • Experience with bush regeneration highly regarded.
  • Assisting guests and answering general enquires regarding the park and the animals.

 

VOLUNTEER SHIFTS

Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday 7am to 1:30pm, 1 day a week for at least 6-months
