The team are initially looking for one volunteer who is able to commit to a Tuesday afternoon. We expect this will be once every two months. Some flexibility with days may be required

Sensory Service based at Ryegate Children’s Centre with occasional remote meetings

Summary
|
The sensory service at Ryegate Children’s Centre are looking for a volunteer with lived experience of neuro-diversity to collaborate with them.
The sensory service is a consultation and advice service, based at Ryegate Children’s Centre and working across schools and community hubs. They also offer a remote service and have a range of online training resources.

Key tasks
|
- Attending meetings to listen and give constructive feedback
- Attend young person’s groups and linked parent sessions
- Support school-based projects which aim to hear service user experience e.g. through pupil voice forums
- As part of an environmental audit, provide feedback and use own experience/insight to help us explore reasonable adjustments to support a sensory friendly environment

- Expert by experience and able to use your insight to help and support the service to empower young people and families
- Courage to give honest, constructive feedback to the team, that helps them improve their service interventions
- Able to contribute to a range of service projects, working with members of the team and service users
- Reliable and committed
- A good listener – you’ll be listening to young people and families
- Able to use initiative to answer service users questions, or pass on queries to the team

Exclusions
|
Volunteers cannot be involved in any of the following:
- Clinical or medical treatments of any kind
- Psychological interventions
- Clinical advice
- Moving or handling of patients
- Personal care activities
- Escorting patients off hospital premises
- Lifting or handling heavy equipment
- Undertake any role outside of their volunteer role without checking with the Volunteer Services Team

Training
|
This volunteer role requires the following online training:
- Health, safety and welfare for volunteers
- Fire safety for volunteers
- Safeguarding for volunteers
- Preventing radicalisation: basic Prevent awareness for volunteers
- Equality, diversity and human rights for volunteers
- Infection prevention and control for volunteers
- Conflict resolution for volunteers
You will also be required to attend a Trust Induction and local induction with the department

Support
|
- We will reimburse travel expenses (within a set limit)
- A uniform will be provided for you to wear when volunteering
- We will provide access to refreshments when on shift
- You will receive regular communications from the Volunteer Services Team
- You will have a designated supervisor within the department you are volunteering

Background checks required
|
If successful, this role is subject to the following checks:
- Criminal Record Check (DBS Check)
This role requires an enhanced DBS check.
- Occupational Health Check
This check is in place to ensure you are fit to undertake the volunteer role and to identify any modifications required to assist you.
- References
We will gather two references of character and ability to do the volunteering role from people who are not close relatives or friends. This could be an employer, another organisation you volunteer for, a teacher or tutor, amongst others.
