CLG Evening Legal Clinic
CLG evening clinics are the foundation of our volunteer service. The evening legal clinics have been running for decades, with hundreds of volunteer lawyers providing legal assistance to Calgary's low-income population. Legal topics vary from Criminal Law, Family Law, Civil Litigation, to Employment Law, Social Benefits, and Debt issues. No specific expertise is required, although we do try and pair up clients with lawyers in their specific practice areas.
CLG takes a trauma-informed approach to providing legal services to its clients, and as such, we work to train our volunteers to be able to provide sensitive and effective services for our clients.
There are three main volunteer roles at the evening clinic:
- Volunteer Lawyers - members of the Law Society of Alberta, who provide 30 minutes of summary legal advice to the clients.
- Administrative Volunteers - who assist in the overall running and logistics of the evening legal clinic.
- Client Admission Screening Volunteers - who assist in providing intake, assessment, and booking services for clients interested in attending the evening legal clinic.
