General Volunteer Opportunities

Food Hub Research and Production

Help UDC CAUSES to grow plants for community food production and for innovative research in urban and sustainable agriculture. Tasks will vary but may include seeding, transplanting, watering, weeding, harvesting, processing, distribution, organization or tidying at our urban sustainable food hubs.  Opportunities occur in soil-based and non-soil based systems (such as hydroponic systems) and may be in a greenhouse or in a field.  Learn while you serve!

Youth Development

Contribute to the empowerment and development of youth in the District of Columbia in important programs related to urban agriculture, hunger and poverty, renewable energy, climate change, food deserts, food supply chains and food justice. Mentor youth teams, give presentations, find program funding, assist with youth events, promote programs, and other related administrative tasks.  Many of these opportunities are at our Urban Food Hubs but also may occur at DC schools.  This role requires an additional onboarding step.

Nutrition Education

This role supports vital food and nutrition education of middle and high school students that may take place in DC schools or on CAUSES' campuses across DC. This fun and stimulating role will be developed with the appropriate CAUSES supervisor based on your interests and availability.  This role requires an additional onboarding step.

Outreach

This role includes staffing tables at a variety of fun events and fairs alongside CAUSES staff to help educate the public about CAUSES programs and opportunities. These are great opportunities for professional networking!

Office Support

Go behind the scenes with CAUSES Faculty and Staff in an office setting to assist with important tasks and projects such as organizing supplies, assembling materials, contacting community members, and doing online research.  Some work may be done remotely.

Photography, Video and Graphic Design

Use your skills and experience in writing, editing, graphic design, photography, video production, or digital content to assist with various exciting projects in CAUSES for community outreach and education.  Some work may be done remotely.
