Fringe Festival Front of House Team


FRONT OF HOUSE TEAM

The Front of House Team welcomes every Patron to their show! They work at venues close to the main Fringe site and are responsible for greeting Patrons, managing lineups, and scanning tickets at the door. This position can be fast-paced, as it is important that Patrons enter the theatre quickly so the show can start on time. It provides an opportunity to meet many passionate theatregoers. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Greet Patrons and manage lineups outside the venues
  • Check and scan tickets for entry to the venue
  • Work cooperatively with fellow Volunteers, House Technicians, and Team Leaders to create a positive theatre experience for Patrons
  • Answer Patron questions and give directions 

 

Skills & Qualifications 

  • Must be 14+ years of age
  • Must attend an in-person, pre-event training session (new and returning Volunteers)
  • Comfortable learning how to use a smartphone to scan tickets (comfortable troubleshooting minor technical issues would be an asset)
  • Comfortable approaching and speaking to Patrons at venues, and in a busy, fast-paced environment
  • Able to stand outside for 45 minutes or, if applicable, sit outside for 45 minutes in your own personal wheelchair, walker, scooter or mobility aid
  • Able to quickly move from one venue to another across the Fringe site (approximately 10 blocks in 20 minutes)
  • Basic understanding and ability to communicate in spoken and written English 

 

Shift Length & Hours

  • Shifts are approximately 3 - 5 hours in length 
  • Shifts occur between the hours of 10:30 AM to Midnight 

 

Usher Role 

At some of our venues we need to have a Volunteer(s) stay in the venue to assist in case of emergency or to enhance the Patron experience   

  

Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Before the performance: the same duties and responsibilities as a regular Front of House shift
  • During the performance: your primary job is to assist Patrons this might include 
  • Light/illuminate the way with flashlight if a Patron needs to exit during the performance
  • Let Patrons back in and guide them to reserved seating for this situation
  • Assist venue technician in directing and evacuating patrons during an emergency  

Skills and Qualifications  

  • Same skills and qualifications as a regular Front of House shift
  • Must be 18+ years of age
  • Stand between the vestibule doors if Patron requires Re-Access (5-10 minutes)
  • Comfortable conversing with Patrons
