5. CATS: AM/PM Feeding/ Kennel Cleaning

Ensuring our felines' living environments are clean, safe and pleasant is one of the most basic functions within the shelter. Morning shifts include our full feeding/cleaning protocols, while the afternoon roles focus on spot cleaning and supplemental feeding. Morning cat kennel cleaning is done by hand using various cleaning supplies, and includes replacing litter boxes and soiled bedding, cleaning water bowls and ensuring proper amounts of food are given. Afternoon roles ensure kennels are cleaned of any feces, water bowls are full and that supplemental feeding is provided.

To volunteer in this area you must be physically capable of standing for long periods, bending and stooping frequently and lifting up to 40lbs. Additionally, there is daily exposure to feces and urine, and at times, blood or vomit. Time commitment is a schedule of at least one 2 to 3.5 hour shift each week. Morning shifts generally begin at 8am, and afternoon shifts at 3:00pm, although times can be somewhat flexible. Training consists of two to three 2-3-hour training sessions, until the trainee is comfortable in the role.
