16. BARN ANIMALS: Horses, Goats, Sheep, Fowl, etc.
***Minimum volunteer age requirement is 21yrs.***
A large area of our shelter’s jurisdiction is rural and thus we often take in several types large/farm animals, including horses, pigs, goats, sheep, geese, chickens, ducks and more. To volunteer in this area, for safety most applicants generally need previous related experience. The most common tasks in this area are mucking stalls/pastures areas, feeding, cleaning cages, and restocking supplies. Morning and afternoon shifts are 2.5 hours. Training consists of one to three sessions with an existing volunteer, and is dependent upon having available animals in our care.
