2. DOGS: Small Breed Walking/Socialization

Dogs are social animals and require an abundance of interaction, especially in a shelter environment. This role provides walks/exercise, and socialization to our small breed dogs. Experienced volunteers also work on behavior modification within our canine rehab program. Prospective volunteers must be steady on their feet and possess basic dog-handling skills. Willingness to pick up feces is required. Comfort with sometimes fearful and defensive little dogs is a plus!

Training depends upon your current skills, but is generally three 3-hour sessions with an existing volunteer or in small-groups, with a subsequent volunteering commitment of at least one 2.5-hour shift per week. Shift times generally begin at 8am, 10am, 2pm, and 4pm, but there is scheduling flexibility.
