4. DOGS: "Yard-birds" Socialization
Our Yard-birds are a fabulous team of volunteers who spend time in our socialization yards with some of our very shy/fearful dogs to gain their trust in humans and grow confidence in themselves. This is a perfect opportunity for those with mobility issues or inability to handle large breed dogs for walking. Volunteers in this area must have comfort with/around large dogs, and basic experience with dog handling and behavior.
Training depends upon your current skills, but is generally two 3-hour sessions with an existing Yard-bird volunteer, with a subsequent volunteering commitment of at least one 2.5-hour shift per week. Shifts are generally in the morning with start times of 9am or 10am, depending upon the day of the week.
