COMPANION VOLUNTEER

Bring comfort, connection and companionship to older people and patients in our care.

As a Companion Volunteer at Buckland Nursing Home, Bindaree Retirement Centre or within our Hospital Ward, you will provide one-on-one social support and meaningful interaction for residents and patients, particularly those who may have limited contact with family and friends.

How you can help

  • Spend time chatting, listening and engaging in meaningful conversation.
  • Read aloud, share stories and encourage social connection.
  • Support residents during walks and enjoy time together in our beautiful gardens.
  • Provide companionship and a friendly presence for those who may be feeling isolated.
  • Help create positive moments that enhance a person's day.

What we're looking for

  • A friendly, caring and reliable approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathy, patience and respect for people from diverse backgrounds.
  • A genuine interest in supporting the wellbeing of older people and patients.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow staff guidance.
