Position Summary

The Pickleball Working Group Member is a volunteer role that supports the Township of Tiny’s Recreation staff by providing community-based input, collaboration, and volunteer assistance related to pickleball programming, communication, and engagement. This role is advisory in nature and does not carry decision-making authority.

Working Group Members contribute lived experience, constructive feedback, and community perspectives to help ensure pickleball programming remains inclusive, accessible, affordable, and sustainable for residents of all ages, skill levels, and seasonal residency patterns.

Purpose of the Role

The purpose of this volunteer position is to:

  • Support Township staff in the coordinated delivery and growth of pickleball programming and to carry out the Council approved Pickleball Strategy. 

  • Represent a broad range of community perspectives. 

  • Assist in volunteer engagement, communication, and community-building initiatives.

  • Contribute to the phased development of governance models outlined in the Township’s Pickleball Strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Working Group Members are expected to:

  • Attend Working Group meetings (typically quarterly).

  • Provide feedback and advice to Township staff on:

  • Programming formats and scheduling

  • Communication and engagement approaches

  • Inclusivity, accessibility, and affordability considerations

  • Assist with identifying community needs, trends, and emerging issues related to pickleball.

  • Support volunteer coordination for Township-led pickleball activities and events, where appropriate.

  • Act as a positive ambassador for respectful, inclusive, and welcoming pickleball participation.

  • Support the Township’s phased approach toward potential club development, as outlined in the Pickleball Strategy.

Scope and Authority

This is an advisory volunteer role only. Working Group Members:

  • Do not make decisions on behalf of the Township.

  • Do not allocate resources or approve expenditures.

  • Do not enforce rules or manage facilities.

  • Do not represent the Township publicly unless authorized by staff.

  • All operational decisions remain the responsibility of Township staff.

  •  

Term of Appointment

  • Volunteers are appointed for a three (3) year term.

  • Appointments may be renewed at the discretion of Township staff, subject to performance, attendance, and program needs.

  • Members may resign at any time by providing written notice to the staff liaison.

  •  

Qualifications and Skills

Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • An interest in pickleball and community recreation (all skill levels welcome).

  • A collaborative, respectful, and solution-focused approach.

  • Willingness to consider diverse perspectives, including those of seasonal residents and non-members.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to contribute constructively in a group setting.

  • Commitment to inclusivity, fairness, and community well-being.

  • Previous volunteer or committee experience is an asset but not required.

Representation and Diversity

The Township seeks to appoint members that reflect a diversity of:

  • Skill levels (beginner to advanced)

  • Geographic areas within the Township

  • Age groups

  • Year-round and seasonal residents

  • Time Commitment

  • Approximately 4 meetings per year, plus occasional participation in events or initiatives as availability permits.

  • Additional time may be required for review of materials or community outreach on an as-needed basis.

Training and Support

The Township will provide:

  • Orientation to Township policies and expectations.

  • Staff support and facilitation of meetings.

  • Access to relevant background materials and resources.

  • Guidance on volunteer roles, conduct, and conflict of interest.

  •  

Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest

Volunteers are expected to:

  • Act respectfully and collaboratively.

  • Disclose any real or perceived conflicts of interest (including affiliation with external pickleball clubs or organizations).

  • Comply with Township volunteer policies and codes of conduct.

  • Support inclusive, safe, and positive recreation environments.
