Recreation Programs - Spring Soccer Coach (Ages 6Y to 15Y)

As a volunteer Soccer Coach, you’ll lead weekly practices, teach fundamental soccer skills, and create a positive, safe, and inclusive environment for youth players. This role supports teamwork, sportsmanship, and skill development while fostering a love for the game.

Position Purpose / Goals

  • To provide a safe, positive, and supervised environment for youth soccer.
  • Teach participants fundamental soccer skills.

Tasks / Outline of Responsibilities

  • Organize and lead practice sessions.
  • Adapt coaching methods to participants’ age and skill level.
  • Encourage and motivate players for practices and games.
  • Explain and enforce safety rules.
  • Monitor safe equipment use.
  • Ensure fair play and equal participation opportunities.
  • Set clear, achievable expectations and goals.
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship
  • Communicate promptly with municipal staff regarding concerns or attendance issues.
  • Direct parent or media inquiries to the Recreation Services Coordinator.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Team-oriented, friendly, and reliable.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fair, enthusiastic, and punctual.
  • Basic understanding of soccer.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and appropriate attire (Township shirt/running shoes).

Time Commitment Expected / Length of Appointment

  • One (1.5) hour training session.
  • Weekly sessions (1 hour each) for six weeks during the soccer season.

Location

  • Township of Tiny Soccer Fields (29 Concession 5 East)

Working Conditions/Accessibility

  • Outdoor environment, variable weather conditions.
  • Appropriate clothing, footwear, sunscreen, and insect repellent recommended.
  • Stay hydrated and take regular breaks in hot conditions.
  • Volunteer shirts provided must be worn during coaching.

Level of Risk

  • Low to Medium Risk; general knowledge required.
  • Regular supervision provided.
  • Interaction with vulnerable populations; no confidential information or cash handling.

Screening, Orientation and Training

  • Completion of Volunteer Agreement and Training Checklist
  • Orientation session provided.
  • Soccer-specific and Health & Safety training included.

Supervisor/Contact Person

  • Recreation Service Coordinator and/or designate.
