Youth Program Attendant – Position Description
Purpose / Goals
- Foster a safe, positive environment for youth through engaging programs.
- Provide reliable supervision and encourage creativity, activity, and social connection.
- Support municipal goals for community health, safety, and engagement.
Responsibilities
- Lead drop-in programs suited to youth interests and ages.
- Ensure activities are safe, well-planned, and inclusive.
- Supervise and engage youth participants.
- Adapt activities to suit different needs and age groups.
- Monitor equipment use for safety.
- Promote positive behaviours and address concerns fairly.
- Act as a liaison between youth, parents, and staff; escalate issues to Recreation Coordinator as needed.
Commitment
- 2-hour onboarding session.
- Ongoing shifts based on program needs.
- Periodic training and evaluations.
Location
Various community parks and facilities.
Supervisor
Recreation Services Coordinator and/or designate.
Qualifications
- Strong communicator and dependable team player.
- Experience in youth programming.
- Enthusiastic, punctual, professional.
- Must complete a background check and wear Township attire.
Working Conditions
- Programs run indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Follow health and safety protocols.
Level of Risk
- Medium to high risk.
- Works with youth/vulnerable populations (never alone), under regular supervision.
- No cash handling; possible access to confidential info.
Screening & Training
- Volunteer Agreement & Waiver.
- Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).
- Orientation & Handbook Review.
- Training: Accessibility, Health & Safety, Job-Specific Equipment, Harassment Policy.
Qualifications Required
- Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation Training Must be Completed
- Accessible Customer Service Training Must be Completed
- Occupational Health & Safety Must be Completed
- Volunteer Rights & Responsibilities Must be Completed
- Volunteer Safety & Security Must be Completed
- Volunteer Inclusion Training Must be Completed
