Description

This program is organized by Voice of English-speaking Québec as part of the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). As an Income Tax Volunteer, you provide free tax filing assistance at no obligation to qualifying clients who are unable to complete their income tax returns themselves and cannot afford professional tax services.

A mandatory annual online webinar training is offered in English by the Canada Revenue Agency and Revenu Québec Volunteer Program. You will be provided with training manuals, reference materials, software and resource telephone numbers. 

NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the CRA and Revenu Québec announced that we can again use virtual income tax preparation sessions for the income tax season. Virtual sessions are an excellent option for organizations and volunteers who want to continue helping the vulnerable complete their income tax returns, while following social distancing rules.

Responsibilities

You must have prior experience filing income tax in Quebec—though you are required to complete an online training provided by the Canadian Revenu Agency (CRA).  You must be able to work independently and manage your time well. You must have a computer that is compatible with the income tax software (Windows only, software not available for Mac). You are required to meet deadlines that have been mutually agreed upon. Finally, you are entrusted with valuable, confidential documents which you must use to prepare the tax file and return in good condition.

Special Conditions

Confidentiality is exceptionally important as we entrust you with a client’s information. Clients understand that volunteers are not tax experts and will never be held responsible for unintentional omissions or errors. In fact, all Income Tax Service clients sign a consent form acknowledging this fact.
