Have you always wanted to volunteer, but don’t know how to get started?

At Kangan Institute we are proud to offer a Student Volunteering Program to all current students.


As part of this program you will have the opportunity to:

• undertake induction

• participate in volunteering opportunities inside Kangan Institute.

• or take up volunteering activities in your local community.

In only 30 hours a year you can have the opportunity to develop employability skills and give back to your local community. And you'll achieve a recognition certificate for your achievements. 

The opportunities are only as limited as your imagination!

Welcome Chat Buddies

Chat Buddies

Provide English language support after being paired with students learning English.

Currently this role can takes place in a causal setting such as phone calls or video chats with our International students.

Or this role can take a place in more formal setting:

  • In a classroom or other learning setting.
  • Being paired with English as Additional Language student volunteers at our Welcome Desks.

Study Support Volunteer

Volunteer demonstrates how to use a computer to student

Assist students with their learning.

You will be paired up with a student at Kangan Institute to provide individual student support online.

Ideally you will paired with a student who:

  • has similar life experience, ie, mature age student, full time parent returning to study. Or,
  • is in a course in which you have industry experience where you can provide insights and support

Welcome Desk

BKI - Welcome Desk

Welcome Desk has two shifts available Monday to Thursday during Victorian school terms.

MORNING (am) -

  • 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
    Earlier starts from 8:30 am-8:45 am are preferable due to assistance required for 9am sessions and also due to limited parking.

AFTERNOON (pm) - two shift types available:

  1. English Language Mentor - 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm
    The first half of shift is to run Welcome Desk service, the second half is to assist English Studies student volunteer.
  2. English Studies Student Volunteer - 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
    Must be a currently enrolled Bendigo TAFE or Kangan Institute student in an English Language course.
