Volunteer Opportunities 


Food Service Opportunities

Community Food Distribution - Volunteers prepare food boxes and distribute food to the communities where it is needed.  Food Pantry - Volunteers receive, sort, stock and pack nutritional support for people who experiencing financial difficulty or food insecurity.

Kitchen Service - The Center of Hope Kitchen provides for the daily dietary needs of those living in the Residential Re-Entry Center, Transitional Housing Program and Family Shelter. Volunteers with kitchen experience or willingness to learn are encouraged to become a regularly scheduled part of our kitchen work.

Lewis Center Meal Service - Qualified volunteer drivers transport prepared foods from The Salvation Army Center of Hope Kitchen to the Philip D. Lewis Center and serve meals to the homeless.

Holiday Meals and Food Boxes – Volunteers serve Meals, Provide Mobile Canteen Service and distribute specially prepared Food Boxes for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Family Stores

Volunteers receive, sort, and merchandise donated items Monday Through Saturday.

Youth Education and Athletics

After School Tutors - Qualified volunteers teach or assist with Reading, Writing, Math, Fine Arts, Bible and Character-Building lessons.

Athletics - Qualified Volunteers serve at member check-in, as guest guides, timekeepers, scorekeepers, coaches, referees, or concession stand attendants.

Summer Day Camps – Qualified volunteers serve as counselors and chaperones.

Emergency Disaster Services

The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services volunteers are asked to register at the official website www.disaster.salvationarmyusa.org

 

Holiday Outreach

Thanksgiving Community Luncheon - Volunteer Chefs, Servers, and Community Partners provide a Thanksgiving meal.

Thanksgiving Food Boxes - Volunteers fill and distribute food boxes containing Holiday meal items.

Christmas Red Kettles - Volunteer Bell Ringers and groups are asked to register and choose their shifts at www.registertoring.com

Angel Tree Adoption Centers – Volunteers greet donors, assist with adoptions, and receive gifts for registered recipients.

Angel Tree Toy Warehouse - Volunteers prepare gifts for the registered recipients at the Angel Tree Warehouse.  

Angel Tree Distribution Day – Volunteers distribute the toys and gifts to the recipients.

Volunteer Stats

According to the Florida Association of Non-profits the current value of a volunteer hour is $31.80.

During the program year of 2023, 551 volunteers gave 23,175 hours of service to The Salvation Army of Palm Beach County. This is the equivalent of $737,040.00 of in-kind labor revenue.
