The volunteer supplies that extra pair of “helping hands” that add to the trained services of the Acute Care facility staff working together to enhance the patients experience during hospitalization. The position gives high school students the opportunity to volunteer their time and efforts and experience and learn about acute care and the careers available. It's a great recruitment tool too. It also assists the acute care staff with general tasks deemed appropriate for youth & volunteers. Duties such as restocking carts (robes, slippers toiletries etc.), delivering water and snacks to patients, visiting & playing cards, shadowboxing acute care staff.
Shifs available Monday - Friday - 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm CWEC Students 10:00 am - 2:30 pm
The Recreation Associate assists with various activities at the site. They encourage client's participation in activities.
Recreation Associate are the extra pair of "helping hands" that add to the trained services of the Long-term care facility staff, working together to enhance the lives of residents
Activities include, but are not limited to: Reading groups, puzzles, games, bingo, nail painting, going for walks, group painting, crafts, exercise programs, and special events like Christmas parties and teas. Birthday parties, volunteer group outings.
Shifts available Sunday to Saturday 10:00 am - 7:00 pm
Volunteers will assist with the setup, participation, and cleanup of the program. The volunteer assists in encouraging and engaging residents to participate in programs to improve a residents well-being based on these 5 domains: Physical, Cognitive/Intellectual, Emotional, Social, Spiritual. Volunteers will accept direction & feedback from Staff liaison & local Volunteer Services Coordinator. Be respectful of confidentiality in all interactions. Report any concerns or residents’ needs to the Staff Liaison.
Volunteers will be expected to attend in-services, and ongoing educational opportunities as required. Staff liaison will give site orientation/training and provide any special instructions as it may pertain to the clients & the activity. Examples: Wheelchair safety training, Responsive Behavior training and information
Shifts available Wednesday Mornings and afternoons
Meals on Wheels Volunteers deliver nutritious meals to clients assessed as needing support with nutrition.
Personal accomplishment, develop and enhance communication skills, learn new job skills & obtain a work routine, being involved & giving back to community.
Volunteer picks up meals at given time from the outlet and delivers to client in their home.
Shifts vary, delivery over lunch time hours.
Routes available : Biggar, Eatonia Eston, Kerrobert, Kindersley, Rosetown

Palliative volunteers provide social interaction and offer comfort supplies to patients and familes receiving care in the hospital. Training to accompany patients and families ensures volunteers are comfortable in their interactions and will receive gratification for their support. This will improve patient’s social wellbeing as well as physical breaks for families during this end of life experience.
Volunteers should have good communication skills, understand the dying process as well as cultural and spiritual considerations.
Volunteers must take Canadian Hospital Palliative Care Volunteer Training Modules 1-2 and 2 hours with Palliative Care Coordinators.
This is an ongoing volunteer role, shifts will vary according to need .
The Horticulture provider will be able to bring joy to residents. They will share their talents in gardening and assist to improve and maintain the resident's outdoor space.
They assist in caring for the outdoor space we have during our Spring, Summer and Fall seasons.
Duties may include: Watering, feed, transplant plants, weed plant beds, trim/prune plants as required, maintain tidiness in garden area.
3-4 times per week, Monday - Sunday mornings, afternoons or evenings.

The position gives high school students the opportunity to volunteer their time and efforts and experience and learn about Acute care & Continuing care and the careers available
Duties will include : restocking carts (robes, slippers toiletries etc.), delivering water and snacks to patients, visiting, playing cards, reading, fingernail painting, clearing used dietary trays, collecting wheelchairs, putting light charts together, bring clients to shared meal area and recreation activities, seasonal decorating, assist with recreational events, shadowing nursing staff.
Shifts completed in school hours between 9 am and 3 pm Monday - Friday.

The mom and tots provider program provides mental, social, emotional and physical stimulation to not only the residents but also the children involved. This is an opportunity for residents to interact, enjoy some time outside and watch the children play. Residents can blow bubbles, sing songs and interact with the moms and tots of this program.

SHIFTS ARE WEDNESDAY : 10:00 am - 11:30 am
The Fitness Associate assists with various activities with fitness/physical activity as the goal. They encourage client participation in activities and are the extra pair of "helping hands" that support staff led programming.
Activities may include, but are not limited to: seated and standing games, walking programs.
Volunteer will assist with the setup, participation, and cleanup of the program. At the direction of staff, volunteers may support residents in making their way to and from the program space.Gives the opportunity for the volunteer to assist the health care team, develop personal growth, to meet new people and to provide a feeling of giving back to their community. To support and assist in welcoming patients who use the services in this area of the Kindersley Hospital.
Volunteers are the first face a client sees at vaccine clinics, welcomes the public, eases traffic flow, directs questions/concerns to the Public Health Nurse.
