Our MissionTo provide accessible perinatal mental health peer support on the Gold Coast, with a focus on a peer-led, lived experience model of support, helping improve the mental health and wellbeing of parents and their families. |
About Us
Motherhood Village is the Gold Coast’s first established peer-led perinatal mental health charity, proudly founded by a local mother with lived experience of perinatal mental health challenges. Recognised in the Queensland Parliament for our vital community work, we are the region’s original and leading provider of grassroots, lived-experience perinatal mental health peer support.
We specialise in free, in-person mental health peer support group sessions designed for mothers and parents navigating the complexities of perinatal mental health. Our services offer a safe, compassionate, and non-judgemental space for parents who are facing perinatal mental health challenges, experiencing difficulties during the postpartum period, or simply feeling isolated and overwhelmed.
Known for our quality of care, we take great pride in our village approach, offering connection, validation, and support through every stage of the perinatal journey. Every session is facilitated by a trained peer support worker with lived experience of perinatal mental health, trained through the MMHA, COPE and PANDA frameworks, ensuring an authentic, empathetic, and professional service that complements clinical care.
Our team is strengthened by our lived experience workforce (peer workforce) and a wonderful group of volunteers we lovingly call our Resident Grandmas. These wise and nurturing women provide practical support and encouragement during the Village Art and other support groups, from holding babies so mothers can participate in sessions, to offering a cup of tea or helping read a book to your toddler. Together, they help create the safe, supportive environment that makes Motherhood Village truly unique.
Our work fills a critical gap between clinical services and community support. We collaborate closely with trusted Gold Coast perinatal care partners such as the Lavender Unit and the PMH Team at Gold Coast University Hospital, perinatal psychologists and psychiatrists, general practitioners, and women’s health providers. Together, we ensure parents receive wraparound, continuous care throughout pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenting, aligned with the First 2000 Days framework.
We are deeply embedded in the local community, built by Gold Coasters, for Gold Coasters, and we are proud to be a trusted referral option for hospitals, health professionals, and community organisations alike.
Our commitment is simple but powerful: no mother should suffer in silence. We are here to catch and support every mother and parent in their own unique journey, because every parent deserves a village.
Thank you for helping us create the Village.
