Shelter Staff
Assist at shelters during a disaster with set-up of the shelter site, intake and return of animals and feeding, cleaning and wellness checks.
LASER offers different opportunities for involvement:
•Quick Response Teams, greeters and intake coordinator do not require animal handling. These assignments take place when the shelter is initially opened and generally run four hours
•Feeding/cleaning/wellness checks require animal interaction. There are two three-hour shifts each day when the shelter is operational
•Intake teams and the shelter site partner shift may involve animal handling. Intake team shifts are generally four hours at initial opening of the shelter, and the shelter partner shifts are eight-hour shifts, as well as a 12-hour overnight shift
•Shelter Managers oversee the shelter, direct volunteers, make on-site decisions and communicate with the County EOC. These shifts are eight-hour shifts, as well as a 12-hour overnight shift
