Finance - Building Financial Sustainability Models for GF’s Programs- NEW!!!

SUMMARY We are looking for a volunteer with extensive experience in financial modeling to create financial models for Grameen Foundation’s programs and services. This project can be done remotely or at Grameen Foundation’s office in Washington DC. Start Date: May 30, 2011 End Date: August 15, 2011 BACKGROUND Grameen Foundation (GF) empowers the world’s poorest people to escape poverty through access to financial services and practical technology. Founded in 1997 by a group of friends who were inspired by the work of Muhammad Yunus and the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh, our innovations, programs and resources have helped more than 45 million people in Sub Saharan Africa, Asia, the Arab World, and the Americas begin their journey out of poverty. With microfinance and technology as our foundation, we connect people and local institutions across the globe that share our vision of shattering the barriers for the billion people trying to live on less than a dollar a day. CHALLENGE As GF has grown and expanded products and services into more areas, we have a need to understand the sustainability of each of our offerings. Although we have people with financial modeling expertise on staff and those people will likely provide support on this project, we do not have the bandwidth to do it all internally. In addition, we value the perspective that can be added by the fresh eyes of someone outside the organization. PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES The Volunteer shall: - Read available material on Grameen Foundation’s work and its programs http://www.grameenfoundation.org/what-we-do - Conduct interviews with the heads of the following Grameen Foundation’s programs and services: • Applab; • Bankers without Borders; • Community Knowledge Worker; • Capital Market and Advisory Center; • Human Capital Center; • Mifos; • Mobile Financial Services • Solutions for the Poorest; • Social Performance Management Center; - Assess financial sustainability of the above mentioned programs; - Build financial models to show what it would take these programs to reach 100% financial sustainability; - Assess what the trade off would be for these program’s social performance VOLUNTEER DELIVERABLE: The Volunteer shall provide final financial models in Excel format for GF’s programs by August 15, 2011. The financial models should contain: - A scenario demonstrating 100% financial sustainability for each program - The ability to alter assumptions to project financial results under different scenarios - A written explanation of key revenue and expense drivers for each program, including assessment of their relative difficulty to change and the likely associated social impact tradeoffs they would require In addition to the financial models, the Volunteer shall provide a written overview of findings pertaining to this project, including an assessment of the relative sustainability of GF’s programs. VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS: - Strong financial modeling experience; - Experience with NGOs, social enterprises, and/or working in developing countries; - Familiarity with microfinance or other industries serving base of the pyramid consumers
