Internships - Summer 2011- Government, Foundation, and Corporate Relations Volunteer

SUMMARY The Government, Foundation, and Corporate Relations volunteer will support the institutional relations team of the development department within Grameen Foundation (GF) to attract, communicate, shepherd and expand Grameen Foundation’s donors, in addition to researching US government microfinance policy and identifying relevant US government funding in microfinance and technology for development. The volunteer will be part of a dynamic group within Grameen Foundation and assisting with donor and policy research, grant writing, donor and US government meeting preparation, and other tasks as needed, including general administrative support. The Government, Foundation, and Corporate Relations volunteer will be expected to work at least 25 to 40 hours per week, with hours and schedule to be negotiated (schedule must fall during working hours from 8:00am-5:30pm M-F). The internship is unpaid. BACKGROUND Grameen Foundation (GF) empowers the world’s poorest people to escape poverty through access to financial services and practical technology. PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES The volunteer will be expected to: - Assist in writing and editing grant proposals submitted to foundations, government agencies and multilateral institutions, and corporations; - Develop or update research profiles on government, foundation, and corporate sources of funding; - Assist in cultivating relationships with US government agencies and foreign bilateral and multilateral development agencies; - Draft concept papers, reports, and other donor correspondence; - Research existing US government microfinance policy and upcoming microfinance legislation; - Draft briefings for Grameen Foundation’s CEO in advance of his meetings with US government officials; - Attend Congressional, USAID, and State Department briefings and draft meeting reports; - Coordinate and schedule fundraising-related meetings and trips for Grameen Foundation’s Latin America, Asia, and Africa Regional CEOs; - Maintain accurate information in donor database; and - Provide general administrative support and other duties as needed. TIMELINE AND LOCATION The Corporate Relations intern will work at least 30 hours per week at the Grameen Foundation office in Washington DC during normal business hours. VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS GF seeks one volunteer with: - Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; - Excellent research and organizational skills with attention to detail; - Working knowledge or interest in corporate social responsibility, microfinance and poverty alleviation; - Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite; Experienced in Internet research; Donor database experience a plus; - Ability to work in a fast paced environment; and - Spanish language skills a plus.
