Internships - Communications Intern, Bankers without Borders® -- Washington DC, Summer 2011
SUMMARY
The Communications Intern will support the Bankers without Borders® (BwB) team to effectively communicate Bankers without Borders and Grameen Foundation’s work, mission and goals to external stakeholders, corporate partners, the microfinance and technology industries and the general public. The volunteer will assist with projects ranging from video editing and blogger outreach to media relations and communication-focused writing, as well as, provide general administrative support. The Communications Intern will report to the Communications Associate and will be expected to work part time, with hours and schedule to be negotiated (schedule must fall during working hours from 9:00am-5:00pm M-F). The volunteer will be expected to work at the Washington, DC office. Proposed start date: May 15, 2011. End date: August 30, 2011.
BACKGROUND
Bankers without Borders® is Grameen Foundation’s (GF) volunteer initiative. We have a global reserve corps of now more than 6,200 business professionals and recent retirees from a variety of countries and industries who contribute their time, skills, and experience on a volunteer basis to support microfinance and technology solutions. Through on-site technical assistance, training and mentoring, or remote consulting projects, Bankers without Borders’ volunteers work to increase the scale, sustainability, and impact of the organizations they support. PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES
The volunteer will be expected to:
? Assist with management of BwB/GF events, speaking engagements and conferences.
? Assist with developing, researching and writing story ideas for BwB’s (yet to be released) e-newsletter.
? Assist with BwB/Grameen Foundation offline and online communications. Activities may include: updating web pages, editing and writing as needed, conducting blogger outreach, organizing photo/testimonial archives, etc.
? Prepare research briefs
? Provide general administrative support and other duties as needed.
TIMELINE AND LOCATION
The volunteer will work at least 20-25 hours per week at the Grameen Foundation office in Washington D.C. during normal business hours. Days can be negotiated.
Proposed start date: May 15, 2011. End date: August 30, 2011.
VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS
The BwB team seeks one volunteer with:
? Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills;
? Excellent research and organizational skills with attention to detail;
? Proficient in Microsoft Office suite is required, as well as some knowledge and proficiency in web 2.0, video editing, research, communications-oriented writing.
The Bankers without Borders team will provide access to all required background material and facilitate all internal meetings.
