Reading Buddies is a CLP program that places caring adults in the library’s Children’s department. Reading Buddies serve to foster positive interactions with children beyond reading books. Reading Buddies assist children with homework help, crafts, games, imaginary play and kid-led activities. Before volunteering begins, there is a required training focuses on how to have positive interactions and make connections with children in a mentoring role. There will also be a tour of the Children’s Department and the resources on hand. Please express your interest in this training and opportunity by emailing volunteers@carnegielibrary.org and we will schedule an interview with you. You will need your clearances before you are trained for this opportunity.
Applications welcome for all participating CLP locations with a priority for the above locations.

Interested in working with adults, or learning a new skill with your peers? We Learn Volunteers lead groups of 4-15 adult participants through peer-to-peer learning in topics of interest identified by the the volunteer and community for 6-8 weekly sessions. Each group utilizes online resources to further learning and meets in person at a CLP branch to discuss. You don’t need to be an expert on a topic or have experience teaching—we'll help you develop all the tools you need in our We Learn Training!
Check out current We Learn topics being held at CLP locations by volunteers just like you on our CLP Events Page!
