Heritage Volunteering Group

In the autumn of 2025, with the support of HVG and others, researchers from Newcastle University (Bruce Davenport & Yang Wang) carried out a survey concerning volunteer managers’ experiences of supporting older people as they approach the end of their volunteering. The survey was based on interviews with volunteer managers from 11 heritage organisations across England and Scotland.

Since then, Yang & Bruce have been reflecting on those findings and developing some recommendations for good practices in this aspect of volunteer management.

During this HVG event, Bruce & Yang will:

• present the findings from the report
• invite attendees to feed into their recommendations for good practice, influencing the resources produced for the sector
• explore how these ideas relate to your organisation and your volunteers.
