Summer Reception Time Odyssey Welcome Volunteer

Do you like meeting new people?

Why not become a Reception Welcome Volunteer at RAMM!

The Reception Welcome Volunteer is a rewarding role located at the Garden Reception on the upper floor of the museum. This differs from our Queen Street entrance, stewarded by our volunteer Visitor Guides. You will be working with our proactive and dedicated receptionist assisting internal and external visitors equally.

The role is suited to those who are seeking a summer 2026 opportunity, but may be extended beyond.

You will also be assisting the reception staff with the handout and collection of tablets from families who have booked to take part in Time Odyssey for Families during the summer holidays.

You must be 18 years of age to undertake this opportunity.

We are looking for someone who can volunteer on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays.  You should be in a position to volunteer weekly from mid July to at least the end of August - until the first week of September would be ideal.

When

The time commitment for this volunteer role is 3.5 hours weekly with timeout for holidays and other responsibilities.

The available shifts are:

  • Wednesdays Thursdays or Saturdays 9.30am to 1pm, or 12.45pm to 4pm
  • A 30-minute break is incorporated into each shift.

What

You will primarily welcome external and internal visitors, assisting the museum receptionist, who in turn will directly support you in your role.

You will help visitors with enquires and information. This may relate to their current or future visit, a request for tickets for an event, activity, or entry to a paid exhibition.  It may also relate to a group visit or an education visit.

You will also be assisting the reception staff with the handout and collection of tablets from families who have booked to take part in Time Odyssey for Families during the summer holidays.

You will assist other staff members and volunteers who come to the desk or telephone, as well as people on arrival who have appointments with a member of staff.

You will assist with lost property.

Training

It is important that you attend training for this role before you can start which will be a combination of online training at home and in-person at the museum.

Skills and Assistance

You should possess good communication skills, be friendly and feel comfortable in a busy, visitor-facing environment.

You should present a smart appearance.  This role is suitable for anyone who requires to sit and is unable to stand for long periods of time.

A basic understanding of Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel would be helpful.

Although you are not responsible for security in the museum you will be expected to alert visitor service members of staff when incidents or issues arise. The role also includes assisting with the evacuation of galleries and public spaces as you leave the building.  It is Visitor Services staff responsibility to do final searches and to ensure the building is clear.
