RAMM Café Volunteer

The role of Café volunteer is to help the staff team and visitors within the Café within Exeter’s world-class museum. You will volunteer alongside staff members and other volunteers as part of the Food and Beverage team.
This opportunity is open to everyone 18 years of age and above. If you are a student, you should ideally be able to volunteer for at least two terms in an academic year.
When
The time commitment for this volunteer role is a minimum of 3 hours fortnightly (once a week would be great) with timeout for holidays and other responsibilities. You will be offered a regular shift based the availability you specify on your application. We ask that you are able to commit to this role for a minimum period of six months.
The available shifts are:
- Tues, Wed, Thur, Fri, Sat, Sun 1pm to 4pm
What
You will primarily support our café team with tasks such as washing dishes and maintaining a clean and inviting environment.
You will engage with visitors helping to create a welcoming atmosphere, making them feel appreciated and valued.
Training
It is important that you attend training for this role before you can start. The required training will be:
- At home, 1-hour self-led general museum induction and multiple-choice quiz via e-learning
- At home, 30-minute Museum safeguarding via e-learning
- A 30-minute walk around the museum to not only learn where everything is located, but also understand the procedures in place to keep everyone safe.
Skills and Assistance
Enthusiasm for community involvement, be friendly, and feel comfortable in a busy visitor-facing environment.
Energy, reliability, and a can-do approach.
You will wear a RAMM logo bib apron.
Although you are not responsible for security in the museum you will be expected to alert members of staff when incidents or issues arise. The role also includes assisting with the evacuation of the café as you leave the building. It is the visitor service staff responsibility to do final searches and to ensure the building is clear.
