 Bob Hope Patriotic Hall The Los Angeles County Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (MVA) assists veterans, their dependents and survivors receive federal and state benefits such as compensation, pension, education, medical treatment, home loans, burial benefits and license plate designation. Our accredited Veteran Services Officers (VSO's) also provide referrals for veterans regarding drug/alcohol abuse and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  MVA administers Bob Hope Patriotic Hall, a 10-story building with meeting rooms, auditorium, gymnasium and banquet facilities available to veteran service and nonprofit organizations.

Volunteer Opportunities at Patriotic Hall

Visitor Experience Concierge

Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is searching for dedicated Visitor Experience Concierges who will serve as the go-to point for guests seeking information, direction, or assistance during their visit. This role goes beyond greeting; it's about enhancing the guest experience through meaningful interactions and tailored guidance.  Someone who feels they have:

  • Strong Customer Service Skills
  • Exceptional Communication Skills
  • Resourcefulness

Volunteer Event Support Staff

 

Bob Hope Patriotic Hall regularly hosts a variety of events, from exhibitions to veteran, county and community events. The Volunteer Event Support Staff will play a crucial role in ensuring these events run smoothly by assisting with setup, guest assistance, and breakdown. This role is essential for creating an organized, efficient, and welcoming environment.

There are some requirements for this job such as:

  • Customer Service Background: 
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to handle various tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Physical Stamina:  This class of job requires that the volunteer stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting 10 – 25 lbs.

Veteran Services Reception Desk

Veterans visiting Military and Veterans Affairs (MVA) for services will likely see a Veterans Services Officer (VSO) for help. VSO’s assist Veterans with applying for benefits, and represent Veteran’s claims for compensation, from the federal Department of Veterans Affairs.

Volunteers wishing to assist MVA will work closely with the VSO's in the Veteran’s benefits process. Volunteers will help greatly by communicating with Veterans who are seeking claims, benefits, and other assistance.

 

Veterans Services Reception Desk Volunteers are on the front line of services to our Veterans by:

 

  • managing a reception desk, answering phone calls from Veterans and taking messages;
  • assessing Veteran’s needs and directing them to the appropriate Veteran’s Service Officer;
  • providing a smile and positive customer experience to our Veterans

The shifts for this position are ideally 4 hours, morning 8-12 or afternoon 12:30 – 4:40. Once you have completed the application process, you can sign up for shifts on a computer or smart phone
