Position Title: Grocery Shopping Program Volunteer
Location
Abbotsford Seniors Active Living Centre and Billings Bridge Mall
Goal of the Position
The Grocery Shopping Program enables seniors 55+ and adults with physical disabilities to get out to shop with minimal assistance at a local grocery store and to have their groceries delivered to their homes. The program also offers clients an opportunity for a social gathering and to connect with others in the community. Volunteers assist on the bus and in the grocery store.
Position Responsibilities
·Meet with the Program Assistant at the beginning and end of the shift.
·Provide minimal assistance to clients from the door of their homes to and from the bus and to and from the store.
·Ride on a school bus with the clients to assist and chat with them while on the bus for their pickup and return journeys.
·Assist clients in the store, with shopping, loading and unloading carts, helping them to abide by timeline of the program.
·Help to set up the in-store refreshment area and assist clients with refreshments if needed, clean up when finished.
·Keep an eye on the clients during the program ensuring they are managing ok, immediately alert the Program Assistant of any concerns e.g. client feeling unwell.
·Attends program meetings and relevant scheduled training.
Position Boundaries
• Does not handle confidential member records independently.
• Does not provide medical, financial, or personal advice
Qualifications
- Fluency in English required, Intermediate skills in other language considered in asset.
- Ability to independently push a wheelchair is required.
Other Requirements
- Valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Completion of General Onboarding Training
