Administrative and building support volunteers provide valuable office and building support. Duties include distribution of printed materials, research and data input, stuffing envelopes, sealing and preparing envelopes for mailing as well as light filing/sorting. Additionally, we have a gardening group, volunteer newsletter committee, and several other volunteer committees.
Volunteers will assist with sales, restocking inventory, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for customers. Volunteers will be trained in our payment operating system, membership, daily sales, and merchandise. Retail volunteers should have an enthusiasm for merchandise, books and be excited to learn about the specifics of both the Shop and Book Shop collections.
The Nevada Museum of Art actively recruits tour guides (called docents) to lead tours for a range of groups. Docents are trained volunteers who host guided tours of the Museum’s exhibitions, facilitate a book club, and come together to collaborate on research and tour techniques. Docents have a true passion for art, learning, and sharing their knowledge with the community.
Volunteers assisting with exhibition installation become part of a team responsible for prepping, painting, labeling, and cleaning. Art handling training is required. Curatorial support includes assistance with data entry, research, filing and special projects.
Hospitality volunteers assist with the staffing of numerous Museum events. From regularly scheduled events such as First Thursday, Second Saturday and other Museum events. Volunteer duties include checking in registered guests, coat check, set up and tear down, and greeting and directing guests.
The Thomas and Pauline Tusher Library, housed under The Center for Art + Environment, is staffed by volunteers with duties that include greeting and assisting guests and working on special projects. The Library is open to the public during open hours. Our goal is to guide patrons to resources that meet their needs. Reference assistance and accurate shelving of materials are fundamental parts of this mission. Your help in maintaining paper in the copier machines, keeping books and magazines in order, and picking up materials left on tables will help patrons find the resources they seek.
Additionally, The Center for Art + Environment has numerous assistant archivist volunteer opportunities. This may include helping in different Museum archives, using photoshop or creating archive boxes.
Community and outreach programming volunteers take part in off-site community events including senior days, earth day, and local festivals. Be a spokesperson to encourage patrons to visit, and learn about all the exhibitions and programming the Museum has to offer.
