Sexual Health Education

To provide support to the Sexual Health Education and Outreach Service (SHEOS) to deliver Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) lessons in schools and support with promotional events, such as Freshers.

Volunteers help empower people, especially young people to make informed decisions about their sexual health and relationships.

Where

Delivered off site at various locations throughout Dorset

When

Hours will be flexible to meet the needs of the service and the volunteer. Generally, the hours are Mon-Fri daytime hours but there will also be the occasional opportunity to support in the evening and at weekends throughout the year

Commitment

A minimum of one session per week with a commitment to volunteer for a minimum of 6-12 months to enable you to get the most out of your volunteering experience.  

Requirements


As a Sexual Health Education Volunteer, you will:

  • be aged 18 years or older
  • be interested in and have respect for people, particularly young people
  • be a good listener
  • have patience, tolerance, and compassion.  
  • enjoy spending time with others, and have a sociable nature
  • be confident and able to use your initiative
  • be responsible, flexible, and dependable

  • interest in or knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and working with young people

Role Summary

 

Activities

  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) sessions
  • Provide non-judgmental information on topics such as contraception, STI’s, consent and healthy relationships
  • Support students in understanding their options and accessing appropriate services
  • Help with preparing session resources and session feedback
  • Help the team to provide a friendly, encouraging atmosphere in the room
  • Help with the setting up, and tidying up of equipment and room following the group
  • Signpost to the staff team any concerns, regarding students’ health or well-being
  • Deliver a ready prepared teaching package alongside staff to a group of students once confidence has been developed
