Drop In Program – Volunteer Kitchen Hand, Lunch Prep & Service (Wednesday 9am – 2pm during school term)
Hawthorn Community House runs a weekly Drop In program that provides opportunities for vulnerable community members and volunteers to come together, develop social connections and share a nutritious meal. The program highlights pockets of disadvantage that exist in Boroondara reaching community members who may have mental health, housing, employment or other challenges, and creates an opportunity for ongoing and meaningful social connection. Hawthorn Community House has worked hard to maintain social connection opportunities for vulnerable locals, and this is especially important in the era of COVID-19.
The Drop in program targets people in the community who experience significant social isolation, by offering a weekly opportunity (no booking required) to come together and feel part of a community.
The Supported Playgroup is a group for parents of young children (0-2 years or 2-4 years) to come together to learn and enjoy stories, songs and rhymes. The group aims to support parents, and parenting, and support the parent-child relationship.
Supported Playgroup Volunteers offer their time, enthusiasm and encouragement to support our clients in this program. They provide practical support to children and parents to enable them to participate in the program. This includes assisting with the set up of the program and morning tea.
The playgroup runs across three different sites (Templestowe, Hawthorn and Donvale) throughout the week. We are currently looking for a volunteer for our Wednesday Templestowe playgroup.
