Germ Busters

Assist the Animal Care staff in maintaining a clean and sanitary environment in the kennel areas. Ensure that the animals have ample and clean food and water, as well as clean cages.

THIS IS THE POSITION FOR YOU IF YOU:

  • Are at least 12 years of age and have an adult partner to accompany you if younger than 16.

  • Are an early riser!

  • Don’t mind a noisy (barking dogs – ear plugs are available to be worn), sometimes stinky work environment.

  • Don’t mind working directly with different types of animals by cleaning cages, scooping poop, and feeding and watering them.

  • Are not bothered by getting a little dirty or getting animal hair on clothes.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM YOUR ROLE AS A VOLUNTEER KENNEL ASSISTANT?

Duties include:

  • Must follow written procedures and verbal directions accurately, especially those regarding sanitation and safety. Work with Animal Care staff to provide animal husbandry. Wash and sanitize food bowls, litter pans, toys and other items used by the animals. Assist in washing, drying and folding of towels, blankets, beds and other items used by the animals.

Your benefits:

  • The opportunity to work directly with the animals and make their stay at the shelter more comfortable. Learn the “behind-the-scenes” workings of the shelter. Work with a fun group of people (Animal Care Staff and other volunteers). Satisfaction that you are contributing to the comfort and happiness of the animals. Chance to work closely with staff in maintaining the animal kennels.

Your value to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region:

  • Direct care for the animals in the heart of the shelter is where our mission begins! Animals have the right to be cared for, fed, watered, have a clean space to lay, and be loved. By providing such care and standards, we lay the foundation of their happiness and what helps lead to adoptions or other successful placement.
