Enhancing the adoption process through versatility in multiple Customer Service Positions.
This is the position for you if YOU:
- Are at least 18 years of age.
- Are an engaging, gregarious individual who enjoys people and dogs.
- Have a good working knowledge of animal care, behavior and breed characteristics.
- Have excellent communication skills and people skills.
- Are willing to learn our animal data base system, Chameleon.
- Possess the ability and willingness to say “I don’t know” to an adopter’s question and to seek help from a staff person.
- Ability to work in various volunteer positions to better aid the Customer Service Staff.
What can you expect from your role as a Customer Care Volunteer
Duties include:
- Assist Customer Service in daily tasks including: Greet, direct clients and answer questions. Facilitate signing up for adoption, licensing, or choice holds. Update notes and holds in chameleon program to reflect current adoptions. Direct customers to areas as needed. Oversee a safe get-acquainted meeting between animals and potential adopter(s). Through conversation, assess the family’s knowledge of caring for the type of animal they are visiting. Answer questions about adoption procedures and the policies and philosophies of HSPPR. Stress the importance of commitment with the dog or cat and the mandatory spaying/neutering policy. Help with the flow through the Adoption Process. Assist with out-of-view tours with patrons looking for lost pets. Represent HSPPR in a pleasant, professional and knowledgeable manner.

Training:
- Attend a Volunteer Orientation.
- Attend a Safe Animal Handling Class
- Complete hands-on training with a volunteer trainer or staff. You will shadow Customer Service Volunteer Trainers or staff until you and a trainer feel that you're ready to go "solo".
Commitment: At least one shift per week, same day and time each week.
Supervision: Direct supervision by the Customer Service Supervisor and staff.
Available volunteer shifts include: 12pm - 2:30pm or 2:30pm - 5pm, Monday – Sunday
