Admissions Runner

Assists Admissions Customer Service with moving animals through

the intake process safely and efficiently.

  • Are willing to acquire a thorough understanding of shelter operations – adoption, lost-and-found and licensing procedures, its mission and philosophies.
  • Are willing to learn our animal data base system, Chameleon.

  • Have excellent people, customer service and communication skills.
  • Able to read animal body language, adhere to strict safety protocols and follow direction from staff.
  • Able to handle large, possibly headstrong animals.

What can you expect from your role as AN ADMISSIONS - RUNNER VOLUNTEER?

Duties include:

  • Help staff to efficiently and safely restrain, vaccinate, and kennel a variety of animals. This position may be asked to restrain animals of all sizes for vaccines and microchips as well as assist with collaring, taking photos, kenneling/de-kenneling, drawing up vaccines, and vaccinating when appropriate.

  • Customer Service has lots of needs that allow for a fast pace exciting environment! Running Assistants work closely with the Admissions staff to make the shelter a safe place for both people and animals. This position is a tremendous help to staff.

Emotional Considerations:

  • This volunteer position may be aware of euthanasia while working in Admissions. While the volunteer will not be asked to observe or participate in the euthanasia process, occasionally owners come in for euthanasia requests, or a medical emergency occurs and an animal my quickly be rushed in for euthanasia. Volunteers must be able to maintain composure and listen to instruction, which often involves simply staying out of the path of the staff, if an emergency should occur with an animal.

Training:

  • Attend a Volunteer Orientation.
  • Safe Animal Handling Class.
  • Complete hands-on training with a volunteer trainer. You will shadow Customer Service Volunteer Trainers until you and a trainer feel that you're ready to go "solo." 

Commitment: At least one shift per week, same day and time each week.

Supervision: Direct supervision by the Customer Service Supervisor and staff.

Available volunteer shifts include: 12pm - 2:30pm or 2:30pm - 5pm, Monday – Sunday
