Scroll down to read full position descriptionSpit ‘n’ Polish Do you love wildlife? Do you want to volunteer for a rehabilitation centre that helps more than 2,000 animals a year? BC SPCA Wild ARC is currently seeking volunteers to help with regular cleaning and organization at our busy wildlife rehabilitation centre.  Responsibilities (Listed in order of time spent)  Clean and organize the wildlife rehabilitation facility regularly. Perform cleaning routines (e.g., washing towels, washing food dishes, table cleanup and recycling out). Light animal care and feeding assistance (no direct animal care). Create an organized, safe, and sterile environment for wildlife in our care and team members. Maintain systems and organization to help keep Wild ARC facilities safe for staff and non‑human patients.   Requirements & Training  16 years or older (with parent/guardian consent). Adherence to strict safety protocols to protect volunteers and animals. Good communication skills and physical ability to lift. Attention to detail and willingness to get a little dirty. Teamwork attitude. Completion of Volunteer Orientation and Animal Health workshop, and one‑on‑person training shift. Philosophical harmony with BC SPCA vision, mission, values, and strategic directions.   Volunteering Conditions  Indoor and Outdoor Settings: Volunteers may work both indoors and outdoors, including working on uneven ground (think gravel lots) and in varying weather. Weather Conditions: Outdoor tasks may involve working in various weather conditions, including rain. Noise: Wildlife rehabilitation facilities can be noisy places, with animal vocalizations and equipment. Lifting and Moving: Volunteers may need to lift or move supplies or equipment, which can require strength and mobility. Standing and Walking: Many tasks involve periods of standing, bending, and walking. Potential Hazards: Be aware of potential hazards such as bites, scratches, or exposure to zoonotic diseases. Volunteers are encouraged to discuss accommodations and modifications.   Youth Volunteers  Youth between the ages of 16–18 can volunteer with the consent of their guardians. Youth volunteers must follow all volunteer requirements and training guidelines. Some responsibilities may require additional supervision or restrictions based on strength and amount of time handling tasks. Time Commitment  Regular weekly two‑hour shift. Volunteers must commit to one (1) shift per week for four (4) months.
