Scroll down to read full position descriptionWild Animal Care Do you love wildlife? Do you want to volunteer for a rehabilitation centre that helps thousands of animals every year? BC SPCA Wild ARC is currently seeking volunteers to assist with the care of sick, injured, and orphaned wild patients, and help maintain the rehabilitation facility.  Responsibilities (Listed in order of time spent)  Clean and sanitize cages, enclosures, and wildlife. Set up enriching indoor and outdoor habitats for Wild ARC patients. Prepare diets and administer feeding to adult and juvenile wild patients. Laundry duties. Clean towels/linen items for patient enclosures. Monitor health and patient conditions under the guidance of Wildlife Rehabilitators.   Requirements & Training  16 years or older (or have consent on youth volunteers below for details). Good philosophical harmony with our organization values. Good communication, teamwork, and strong safety protocols. Comfortable working in fast‑paced and busy environment. Punctual and reliable. Desire to learn new skills and try new tasks; necessary training is provided. Vaccinations recommended: Tetanus vaccine. Volunteers must: Complete volunteer orientation, three online workshops, and four on‑site training shifts.   Volunteering Conditions   Indoor and Outdoor Settings: Volunteers may work both indoors and outdoors, depending on the tasks. Indoor settings include: animal care areas, offices, and medical facilities, while outdoors might include patient rehabilitation areas.   Weather Conditions: Outdoor tasks may involve working in various weather conditions, such as rain or heat.   Noise: Wildlife rehabilitation facilities can be busy places with animal vocalizations, medical equipment, and staff conversations.   Lifting and Moving: Volunteers may need to lift or move supplies or equipment, or animals, which can require strength, mobility, and dexterity.   Standing and Walking: Many tasks involve long periods of standing, walking, and bending.   Animal Handling: Volunteers may handle injured patients under the guidance of trained rehabilitation staff.   Safety Protocols: Volunteers must adhere to safety protocols to protect themselves and the animals. This includes wearing protective equipment.   Potential Hazards: Be aware of potential hazards such as bites, scratches, or exposure to zoonotic diseases. Training will cover how to minimize these risks.    Youth Volunteers  Youth between the ages of 16–18 can volunteer with the consent of their guardians (19+ years old). Youth volunteers must follow all volunteer conditions, abiding by training, strength, and amount of time recommended for this position. Include the location and date of your school program.   Time Commitment  This role involves a regular weekly four‑hour animal care shift. Volunteers must commit to one (1) shift a week for a period of six (6) months.
