Wildlife Transport Do you love wildlife? Do you want to volunteer for a rehabilitation centre that helps more than 2,000 wild animals a year? BC SPCA Wild ARC is currently seeking volunteers to transport safely‑contained, sick, injured, or orphaned wildlife if the wildlife centre is too far for treatment. This role is vital to ensuring distressed animals get care as quickly as possible. Responsibilities Pick up contained wild animals from the Greater Victoria area for transport to Wild ARC. Assist Wild ARC with transportation at events or transport from other animal centres (no pets, must be wild animals only). Provide basic information to members of the public as needed. Ensure Wild ARC staff receive all accompanying paperwork where applicable. Requirements & Training 19 years or older. Dependable and committed to stated availability. Strong communicator. Philosophical harmony with our mission, vision, values and strategic directions. Valid driver’s license, maintained according to the Greater Victoria and CRD areas. Must have personal vehicle. Completion of Volunteer Orientation and training workshops. Valid BC Drivers License – Class 5 or 7. Cost to be covered by the volunteer: Criminal record check with the RCMP or completed online. Volunteering Conditions Indoor and Outdoor Settings: Volunteers may work both indoors and outdoors. Weather Conditions: Outdoor tasks may require working in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, heat, or cold—depending on the location and wildlife safety procedures. Noise: Wildlife rehabilitation areas may be noisy places, with animal activity, equipment, and staff performing their daily duties. Lifting and Moving: Volunteers may need to lift or move supplies, equipment, or animals, which can require strength and mobility. Standing and Walking: Volunteers may be on their feet for extended periods. Safety Protocols: Volunteers must follow safety protocols to protect themselves and the animals. Potential Hazards: Be aware of potential hazards such as bites, scratches, or exposure to zoonotic diseases. Training will cover how to minimize these risks. Time Commitment This is an on‑call position – volunteers can indicate their availability for potential transport assignments. Volunteer must commit to a minimum of 1 transport per month for at least 4 months. Benefits of Volunteering Knowing your contribution is essential in allowing wild animals to quickly access expert assessment and care. Gain experience in wildlife transportation and safe wildlife handling basics. Build meaningful support roles and learn how to interact with wildlife and the public safely. Make a meaningful difference in the life of wildlife in the care at Wild ARC. Questions? Email volunteers@spca.bc.ca
