Wildlife Chef Do you love wildlife? Do you want to volunteer for a rehabilitation centre that helps thousands of wild animals a year? BC SPCA Wild ARC is currently seeking volunteers to assist with wildlife diet creation, kitchen organization, ingredient preparation, and dishes in order to support staff and volunteers.  Responsibilities (Listed in order of time spent)  Prepare food and ingredients for diets (bulk process, chop, mix, blend, thaw). Prepare a variety of diets for a wide variety of wild patients. Maintain inventory of basic ingredients, diet analysis, quantity and portioning (with staff assistance). Help with maintaining a clean prep space: wipe tables, sanitize prep areas, clean prep tools. Keep work area clean by washing dirty bowls, food bins, pots, blender, daily food storage (pantry). Help maintain daily menu lists for food items for that month.   Requirements & Training  16 years or older (see youth volunteers below for details). Good communication and ability to follow instructions. Attention to detail when working with ingredients. Able to lift ingredients when needed (occasionally lift 20 pounds for food prep bins). No food preparation experience is necessary; training in wildlife diet preparation is provided. Specific knife skills for soft foods and puree use. Tetanus vaccine. Philosophical harmony with BC SPCA vision, mission, values, and strategic directions. Completion of online Volunteer Orientation, 1 online workshop, and 1 on‑site training shift.   Volunteering Conditions  Kitchen Settings: Volunteers work indoors depending on the tasks. Indoor settings include: office areas, kitchens, and animal care areas. Lifting and Moving: Volunteers may need to occasionally lift 20 pounds (food prep bins), and items on raised shelving. Standing and Walking: Tasks may involve long periods of standing or walking. Noise: There may be noise from blenders, chopping, meal prep, or wildlife vocalizing. Physical Hazards: Be aware of potential hazards such as bites, scratches, or exposure to zoonotic diseases. Training will cover how to minimize these risks. Allergy Alert: Patients near the kitchen. Contact us to discuss accommodations and modifications.   Youth Volunteers  Youth between the ages of 16–18 can volunteer with the consent of their guardians (19+ years old). Youth volunteers must follow the same requirements; depending upon the program requirements this position may not work for volunteering. Include the location and date of your school program.   Time Commitment  This role involves a regular weekly two‑hour shift.
