scroll down to read full position descriptionBC SPCA – WILD ARC Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre**  Maintenance Do you love wildlife? Do you want to volunteer for a rehabilitation centre that helps thousands of wild animals a year? Are you handy with tools and enjoy fixing things? Join our WILD ARC team to help us keep up with repairs and maintain our specialized wild animal enclosures throughout the year.  Responsibilities  Help maintain operation of the facility, out-building structures and wildlife enclosures. Provide general carpentry services: cutting materials, small repairs, and general handiwork using hand tools, power tools, and machinery under staff guidance. Provide assistance in ordering and sorting building materials. Work with maintenance staff and volunteer teams to help set-up and work safe activities for both animals and volunteers. Check maintenance and repair logs, and work with volunteer site leads to complete maintenance team member needs. No previous WILD ARC or wildlife knowledge is necessary.   Requirements & Training  16 years of age or older Tetanus vaccine Completion of online Volunteer Orientation, Animal Health workshop, and one on-site training shift Philosophical harmony with our mission values, vision and strategic directions Ability to follow instructions, prioritize work independently Create problems with attention to detail (note: appears to be as printed) Experience and expertise with basic repairs, maintenance, and knowledge of safe hand power and hand tools Willingness to wear required personal protective equipment No previous WILD ARC or wildlife knowledge is necessary   Volunteering Conditions  Indoor and Outdoor Settings: Volunteers may work both indoors and outdoors, depending on the tasks. Indoor settings include animal care areas, offices, and medical facilities; the outdoor work might involve maintaining the premises. Outdoor Setting Conditions: Outdoor areas may be uneven or overgrown, so volunteers must take appropriate care to wear closed-toed shoes with grip and follow all safety requirements. Volunteers must dress appropriately for the weather and be prepared for seasonal changes. Physical Activity: Volunteers may need to be on their feet for most of the shift and must have good hand-eye coordination and dexterity to operate tools. Some lifting may be required (>20 lbs). Comfort in learning and improving skills (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and use of basic hand tools) Willing to discuss accommodations and modifications   Time Commitment  This role involves a regular weekly two- or four-hour shift. Volunteers must commit to at least one four-hour shift a week for a period of four months.
