We need volunteers to support our busy and proactive estates team assisting with day-to-day operation 

Location: St Wilfrid's Hospice, Broadwater Way

Suggested Time Commitment: Four hour shift, weekly

Tasks include:

• Checking the dates on the Bottled Oxygen
• Running all taps throughout the Hospice
• Recording water temperatures
• To comply with the relevant policies and procedures of St Wilfrid’s Hospice
• To wear a name badge when you are volunteering.

You will need….

• Practical
• Self-motivated. Willing to work independently
• Risk Aware
• Age 18+

Training and support:

• Organisational Induction Training
• Information Governance
• Department specific training
• COSHH Awareness (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health)

Health and Safety Considerations in this Role:

• Slips, trips and falls
• Emergency procedures (fire/first aid/escape routes)
• Safe manual handling and equipment use
• Individual capability (physically able to perform tasks)
• Appropriate clothing, (long hair tied back, closed toed shoes)
• Awareness of the emotional impact of supporting individuals and a willingness to inform your point of contact should you need support

We are looking for volunteers to help out at our 10th Starlight Stroll !!!"

Date & time of the event: Saturday 14th September 2023, 16:00 - 22.30

Suggested time commitment: 3-4 hours, various depending on the role

Location: Starting from Princes Park, Eastbourne, BN22 7AE

Details:  This year marks 10 years of Starlight Stroll and we need your help to make it the biggest one ever! 

Starlight Stroll is our traditional 5-mile walk, with a lovely chance to lay a special lantern in the Italian Gardens to remember a loved one who has died, or simply to reflect on the work of the hospice. As this year is the 10th anniversary, we also have a special edition 10-mile route for a bigger challenge!

The roles we need you for include but are not exclusive to Route Marshals, Registering Participants, T-shirt or Medal Handlers and more! We are looking for individuals who can volunteer in the hospice for a short shift in the mornings to help set up the Living Well rooms. 

Tasks include:

• Ensure all rooms in the Living Well Corridor are clean, tidy and accessible at the start of each day, (the counselling rooms, treatment rooms, garden room, living well kitchen and gym)
• Replacing water jugs and glasses in each counselling/therapy room
• Ensuring treatment rooms are stocked with towels etc
• Returning equipment to Living Well equipment store

You will need….

• Friendly and positive attitude
• Ability to volunteer independently to particular timelines
• To comply with the relevant policies and procedures of St Wilfrid’s Hospice
• To wear a name badge when you are volunteering

Training and support:

• Organisational Induction Training
• Information Governance
• Department specific training, to include sharps policy and manual handling policy

Suggested Time Commitment:  One hour a day to ready rooms for appointments from 9am onwards

We are searching for volunteers to help in our busy post room at our Donation Centre in Moy Avenue, helping to pack items for posting far and wide, using recycled and plastic free packaging.

Tasks include:

• Assist the post room assistant
• Pick sold items and assign postage labels ready to pack
• Pack parcels with attention to detail to minimize possibility of breakages
• Maintain organization in the post room
• Pack with pace to ensure parcels are dispatched in good time

Location: Donation Centre, Moy Avenue

Time: Suggested four hourly slots 

Days: Tuesdays to Fridays

You will need….

• An ability to work independently to agreed deadlines
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Supportive of the work of St Wilfrid’s Hospice
• To maintain confidentiality

We are currently looking for a volunteer to design leaflets, posters, social media posts and booklets for the hospice, volunteering as part of our busy Communications Team

Location: St Wilfrid's Hospice, 1 Broadwater Way

Time Commitment: Flexible, by prior arrangement with Communications Manager

Days: Flexible

Tasks include:

• Taking design briefs
• Creating print-ready artwork
• Creating artwork suitable for use on digital platforms
• Working within brand and house style guidelines

 You will need….

• Good eye for detail
• Strong design skills
• Experience of working to brand guidelines
• Experience of creating print-ready and digital-ready artwork
• Be able to work independently
• Good working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (if based at the hospice) or access to appropriate design software and hardware (if volunteering remotely)

We need Community Support Volunteers to visit and offer companionship to patients living with life limiting conditions as well as carers and bereaved carers

Time Commitment: Flexible, there are no set hours or time limit with this role

Days: All week

Tasks include:

• Work closely with Community Volunteering Coordinator to understand the needs of the patient/carer being referred and decide if this is a good fit for you
• Introduce yourself to a patient/carer you have been matched with over the telephone, in writing or via a virtual app such as zoom or skype and start to build a rapport
• When you and the patient / carer feel ready, arrange an initial visit to the patient / carers home on a day and time that suits all parties
• Where appropriate, engage in activities such as life story work, reminiscence, painting, reading, playing games and so on, that contribute towards reducing loneliness and social isolation of patients / carers
• Be mindful that you are in an environment where there may be contact with family members and close friends of patient/carer
• Remain in contact with the hospice and keep us informed of how things are going and any issues or concerns
• Adhere to most recent Covid 19 guidelines to ensure the safety of yourself, patient/carer at all times
• Engage with and support other volunteers in this role by sharing your experience and offering a listening ear

• You will be made aware of key areas highlighted in the patient/carers home risk assessment
• You will be trained on how to conduct first visits
