Teen Program Helper
Teen Program Helpers assist with program preparation and clean-up. This position is mainly at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library and helps during our Teen Times and other teen programs. For ages:14 -18
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with Teen Time, Teens Give Back, and other various library programs
- Assist with large programs and more
- Have the option of joining Library Youth Ambassadors, the library’s teen advisory group
- Help with Adopt-a-Category
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED
- Must be 14-18 years of age; with permission from a parent/legal guardian (minor consent form required)
- A pleasant and friendly attitude and demeanor
- Ability to communicate well with others Ability to listen and follow instructions
- Ability to work with and get along with diverse groups of people
TIME/COMMITMENT
Hours are dependent upon program and staff availability

Adopt-A-Category
- Overview: Primarily at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s Children’s Area, this role helps keeps our picture books organized.
- What will you do? “Adopt” a picture book category and shelf-read (alphabetize) it to make sure that it is in the correct order.
- What is the time commitment? Weekly or Biweekly; Once a week. Available for Short-Term Volunteers and Long-Term Volunteers.
Teens Give Back
- Overview: Join the library on select dates and times to make cards & small gifts for library outreach services. May include other library-related projects. Participation does not require you to be an approved volunteer. This is an open opportunity for any teen to participate. Click here to see schedule.
- What will you do? Participate in different arts and craft activities, making cards, bookmarks, etc.. for our library outreach services.
- What is the time commitment? Program is held typically for 2 hours at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library or Ron Wright Lake Arlington Branch Library during the school year. Schedule may vary in the summer. Click here to see schedule
- Requirements: Participation does not require you to be an approved library volunteer. This is an open program for any teen to participate in.
Creative Acts of Kindness
- Overview: Create one-of-a-kind projects that will be shared with the community in our libraries and beyond. Each month will feature a different theme. Participation does not require you to be an approved volunteer. This is an open opportunity for any teen to participate.
- What will you do? Participate in creative projects, such as tiny art, notes of kindness, and more. These projects will be given out to our library community.
- What is the time commitment? Program is held for 1 hour once a week at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library during the Spring of 2026 starting January 14. Click here to see schedule
