The Protector

Be part of the team keeping things safe and running smoothly, while looking out for fellow volunteers. You’ll help manage the flow of people, keep an eye on the installation, and make sure everything stays on track ahead of the run. It’s about being present, approachable, and calm, helping create an environment where everyone can enjoy the experience without a hitch.

Key skills and attributes needed:

  • Friendly, approachable and confident engaging with the public
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Calm, observant and able to stay focused in busy environments
  • Comfortable working outdoors for extended periods
  • Confident giving clear, polite directions and guidance
  • Happy to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with staff
  • Positive and adaptable; able to respond to changing situations
  • Respectful, inclusive and supportive towards all visitors, artists and volunteers
  • Committed to helping create a safe and welcoming environment
  • Comfortable speaking and understanding English

Good to know:

  • The Protector role is open to individuals or if you’re submitting a build team, your protector could be the lead for your team.
  • You’ll be part of a busy, live event environment - it may be crowded at times.
  • You’ll be invited to a volunteer induction session (week commencing 3 August), where you’ll meet the team, get hands-on with the dominoes and receive everything you need for the day.

Date and Time:

Sunday 9th August – Newcastle City Centre

  • Volunteer shifts will be across the whole day – with timings to be confirmed.
  • Dominoes Newcastle is advertised to the public as running from 2.30pm-5pm (the fall will take place at 4.30pm and last approx. 30mins).
