Dominoes - The Builder

The Builder

Get hands-on during the build with NOVUM staff and artists to help bring the run to life. You’ll be right in the middle of it helping position pieces, supporting set-up, and seeing how a large-scale creative idea comes together step by step. It’s a chance to work alongside the team, pick up a few behind-the-scenes insights, and play a direct role in shaping the final spectacle.

Key skills and attributes needed:

  • Friendly and approachable
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Comfortable working outdoors for extended periods
  • Physically able to be on your feet, move materials and support practical set-up tasks
  • Happy to work as part of a team in a busy, fast-paced environment
  • Positive, adaptable and ready to get stuck in
  • Able to follow instructions and work safely as part of a coordinated build
  • Respectful and inclusive with everyone they meet
  • Committed to creating a great experience for visitors, artists and fellow volunteers
  • Comfortable speaking and understanding English

Good to know:

  • The Builder role is open to individuals, corporate teams and community groups.
  • You’ll be part of a busy, live event environment; depending on where you are placed, it may be crowded at times.
  • This role includes physical activity, so you should be comfortable standing for periods and moving dominoes as part of the build. The role can be adapted for those with mobility issues, or wheelchair users, so please express and interest if you would like.
  • You’ll be invited to a volunteer induction session (week commencing 3 August), where you’ll meet the team, get hands-on with the dominoes and receive everything you need for the day.

Date and Time:

Sunday 9th August - Newcastle City Centre

  • Volunteer shifts will be across the whole day - with timings to be confirmed.
  • Dominoes Newcastle is advertised to the public as running from 2.30pm-5pm (the fall will take place at 4.30pm and last approx. 30mins).
