Inpatient Unit Volunteer
Inpatient Unit Volunteers are assigned to a specific patient care unit and become part of that unit’s support team. Volunteer opportunities may be available in medical and surgical units.
Under the direction of nursing personnel and the unit secretary, volunteers provide non-clinical support that helps create a warm, welcoming environment for patients and their families.
Primary responsibilities may include:
- Providing companionship and conversation to patients
- Answering call bells and communicating patient needs to staff as appropriate
- Assisting with patient discharge
- Restocking unit supplies
- Supporting patients, families and staff with additional non-clinical needs as assigned
- Assisting with transporting patients via wheelchair at the time of their discharge.
Role requirements:
This role requires regular walking and standing for the entire shift. Volunteers may push patients in wheelchairs and wheelchair training is provided. Volunteers should be friendly, approachable and comfortable assisting a wide range of patients and visitors. Volunteers who are able to take initiative are a good fit for this role.

Monday - Friday: 9am-12pm
Monday - Friday: 12pm-3pm
