Position Summary:
The High School Co-op Animal Care Assistant supports the daily operations of the animal centre, assisting with feeding, cleaning, and monitoring animals. This hands-on placement helps students develop responsibility, teamwork, communication, and time management skills while exploring careers in animal care and welfare.

Key Responsibilities:
- Clean and disinfect dog/cat areas and supplies following all biosecurity protocols, including wearing required PPE (e.g., gloves, gowns, masks).
- Perform laundry tasks, folding, sorting, and storing.
- Washing and sanitizing dishes, toys, bottles, bowls, leashes and collars
- Support basic grooming and enrichment activities
- Help organize supplies and maintain clean work areas
- Greet the public in a polite and professional manner
- Follow all safety and animal handling procedures

Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a high school co-op program
- Interest in animals and animal welfare
- Dependable and punctual
- Comfortable performing physically active tasks (lifting (up to 40 pounds), bending, standing)
Work Environment:
- Exposure to animal dander, cleaning products, and noise
- Working in both indoor and outdoor environments
- Active, hands-on, team-oriented setting
Supervision & Evaluation:
- Receive orientation and ongoing guidance from staff
- Performance feedback provided in coordination with the centre manager and the school co-op teacher
