The San Antonio Humane Society

A Message from the Volunteer Coordinator

Thank you for your interest in the San Antonio Humane Society (SAHS) Volunteer Program. We understand your time is valuable and we appreciate that you’re thinking about spending some of it with us!  Volunteers are vital in helping us continue our mission to improve the lives of dogs and cats in our community.

Please review our programs below. New volunteer applications are accepted until the 10th of each month.  Applicants will have until the end of that month to complete the application process, pay their fees, and attend a new volunteer tour.

Individuals interested in the Court Mandated Community Service Program or the Volunteer for a Day Program should email directly for more information.

General Volunteer Program

The SAHS General Volunteer Program offers individuals a variety of volunteer opportunities ranging from playing with puppies and kittens to helping our staff with clerical duties and everything in between. The SAHS can accept volunteers as young as 12 as long as they are accompanied by an adult volunteer.  We require our volunteers to commit to volunteering a minimum six hours per quarter to remain active.  The fee for the General Volunteer Program is $30 per person. As long as you maintain your active volunteer status, this is a one-time fee.  This fee goes to cover the cost of your volunteer insurance, shirt, badge, and any other necessary supplies.  If a volunteer becomes inactive, they will be required to pay the fee again to become active. Please see below for more information.
