Albuquerque Volunteer Opportunities - Co-Sponsorship Team
LFSRM is seeking groups, organizations/congregations to help welcome newly
arriving refugee families. Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains will begin
welcoming these allies to New Mexico by providing food, housing assistance, and
more and we need your help! Your group, of at least 4-6 volunteers, will be
matched with a family to help them begin their resettlement process.
As a family co-sponsor, your group will:
- Raise $3,000-6,000 for LFSRM to use towards rent expenses during the family’s initial integration
- Assist with financial literacy
- Assist with health care coordination as needed
- Assist with orientation to community and help navigate community resources
- Assist LFSRM in finding appropriate housing and assist family in learning how to maintain their new home
- Assist family with shopping for basic necessities such as groceries and clothes
- Provide basic furnishings for initial housing
- Assist in navigating transportation systems and provide transportation as needed
- Assist all family members in learning English
- Assist students with school tutoring
- Assist with apartment set up prior to arrival of family
- Have fun! Show your family around town and introduce them to their new home by doing fun activities
- Help prepare adults to obtain and retain employment by assisting with resume development, interview prep, and job searches
